Together with Grete I took a minivan from Puerto Viejo to the capital of Costa Rica, San Jose. There was a lot of fog on the way, but the driver didn't seem to care to much about that (...)
We already prebooked a hostel online that had good reviews. Hostel Urbano was very pretty and clean, and we got a huge room with 3 beds. BUT. Where were the partypeople!? There were almost no people in the common area, which is strange when staying at a hostel. I saw this one guy looking bored in the corner and went over to present myself. His name was Youssif, and it took me like one minute to convince him to go and buy beer for us at the supermarket. We had some beers together with Grete and John (old guy with a lot of life experience) at the hostel before going to what was supposed to be the partystreet in the area. Well.. That was an overstatement, because all the bars were close to empty. We went back to the hostel, but now we had to sit outside in the garden because everyone else were sleeping. San Jose was A LOT colder than Puerto Viejo, and I had to wear pants + have a blanket over me! :-O Youssif is such a funny and interesting person, and suddenly it was 04.00 and WAY over my bedtime.
I've been coughing for a few days and it's difficult to sleep at night. Since we hadn't planned anything for this day, Grethe and I stayed in bed until 12 pm. Haha. Something tells me we needed that. We went to a very nice vegeterian place for lunch, and the waiter had to translate the whole menu for us.
Note to self: learn more Spanish ASAP.
In the evening Youssif and I went out to a Jazz Cafe together with a very nice couple from Canada. This night they had live music and the band was actually very good. I was expecting the lyrics to be in Spanish, but they were all in English. After a few fancy drinks (first mojito of the trip) we were all so tired that keeping our eyes up was painful. I only got 4 hours of sleep since my taxi arrived at 05.15 to drive me and the couple from Canada to the busstation. Next stop: Monteverde!
